Original Score Recording Of The Year
For qualifying productions available for purchase as a physical product, streamed as a commercial product or as a download as defined below and released within the eligibility period between 1st October 2025 and 30th September 2026 ("Definitions of Eligibility").
An original score recording is defined as an album or release that contains a minimum of 51% original compositions
featured in a complete or edited form in a cinematic, broadcast or streamed release and not previously released in any
other format.
To avoid doubt, a score release may contain individual songs, but at least 51% of the running time must be an original
score. For this purpose, ‘score’ may be any music used to accompany a picture that is not a standalone, vocal-led song,
although it may contain vocals.
Soundtracks of filmed live performances are not eligible.
A maximum of three trophies will be awarded to the team involved in the creation of the original score recording. These are
usually presented to the Producer, Recording Engineer and Mixer, at least 50% of whom must be either UK passport
holders or be able to satisfy the Statutory Residency Test.
If there is no credited Producer, the Producer’s award can be presented to the Composer.
Large Studio Of The Year
In line with last year's revised criteria, any studio that has won in the last 3 years will be deemed ineligible. Ineligible studios for 2027 are: 2026: Decoy Sound and Baltic | 2025: The Church and Sleeper Sounds | 2024: Real World Studios.
This year we will again be awarding two trophies. Large Commercial Studio: a short-term rental facility for recording and/or mixing music in the UK with 5+ employees/directors/partners or more than 3 studios. Small Commercial Studio: a short-term rental facility for recording and/or mixing music in the UK with 1–4 employees/directors/partners and fewer than 3 studios.
These awards will be judged by a special panel of professional producers and/or recording engineers who, at their discretion, may individually visit shortlisted nominees, make their assessments without conferring with other judges, and vote accordingly. The MPG Board determines the assessment criteria, which may include staff surveys and client testimonials. We encourage nominations of studios big and small from all over the UK.

Unsung Hero
This is an open category for anyone, as defined below ("Definitions of Eligibility").
This is an open category, awarded to an individual involved in the recording industry (does not have to be technical), who works tirelessly behind the scenes, and deserves recognition. Nominations may include but are not limited to: studio assistants, bookers, studio managers, managers and management assistants, technicians, campaigners, or anyone who operates behind the scenes in the production process. Nominations will be judged on testimonials only. The shortlist will be decided by the MPG members and the winner will be decided by the executive board of the MPG.
All nominees must either be UK passport holders or be able to satisfy the Statutory Residency Test.
Definitions of Eligibility
- Commercial Release
All projects and music related to the person being nominated, and all nominations for Album Of The Year and Original Score Recording Of The Year, must have been commercially released for the first time between 1st October 2025 and 30th September 2026. This includes music released for download and/or purchase as a physical or digital product, or streamed as a commercial product. For Original Score Recording Of The Year, the album’s release date, rather than the release date of the film or television programme the music was produced for, must fall within the eligibility period above. For the avoidance of doubt, “commercially available” means paid for or available as part of a paid-for subscription service. The release must also be unlimited. Limited edition promotional releases or releases on limited formats, e.g. “vinyl only”, are ineligible. - General Distribution
Works must be released via general distribution, defined as the nationwide release of a recording via brick and mortar retailers, third-party online retailers and/or applicable digital streaming services. Applicable streaming services are paid subscription, full catalogue, on-demand streaming/limited download platforms that have existed as such within the United Kingdom for at least one full year as of the submission deadline. All recordings entered must have an assigned International Standard Recording Code (ISRC). - Nominee Eligibility
Apart from the MPG Gifted Awards of Icon, Special Recognition, Inspiration Award and Outstanding Contribution, nominees must either be UK passport holders or satisfy the Statutory Residence Test. - Copyright and Authorisation
Recordings must be non-infringing, original works of authorship. Where a recording incorporates copyrighted work belonging to a third party, appropriate authorisation must have been obtained. If allegations arise that a recording is unauthorised and does not meet these criteria, MPG Awards Ltd. will consider the allegations and determine, at its sole discretion, the eligibility of such recordings. - Album Of The Year and Original Score Recording Of The Year
For these categories, the award is presented to a production team, i.e. producer, recording engineer and mix engineer. At least 50% of the production team must either be UK passport holders or satisfy the Statutory Residence Test. For Album Of The Year, where one person is the producer, engineer and mixer, that person must either be a UK passport holder or satisfy the Statutory Residence Test. For Original Score Recording Of The Year, if there is no producer, the third award may go to the composer if they are a UK passport holder or satisfy the Statutory Residence Test. The recording artists featured in the Album Of The Year category do not need to hold UK passports or satisfy the Statutory Residence Test. Albums are regarded as eligible as long as they fulfil the definition published by the UK Official Charts Company - Breakthrough Producer & Breakthrough Engineer
Nominees are ineligible if they have previously been shortlisted in Breakthrough Producer or Breakthrough Engineer (including the former Rising Star category), Producer Of The Year, Writer/Producer Of The Year or Engineer Of The Year. In these cases, they are deemed to have already “broken through” and cannot be shortlisted in a Breakthrough category again. - Greatest Hits Compilations
Greatest Hits compilations will only be considered if at least 50% of the tracks are new material. - Re-releases
A previously released track that undergoes a new mix, with possible additional production, and receives a new ISRC is eligible for consideration. If a track is re-mastered and receives a new ISRC, it will qualify for the Mastering Engineer Of The Year category. - Eligibility Decisions
In the event of questions or disputes regarding eligibility, the decision of the MPG Awards Committee is final.
